Health & Safety at Crafty Mindz

A comprehensive, Oregon‑licensed approach to protecting children, families, and staff

At Crafty Mindz, we believe that a safe, healthy environment is the foundation of high‑quality early learning. Our practices are built on the Oregon DELC licensing standards, including OAR 414‑300 requirements for Certified Child Care Centers, and informed by CDC, Childcare.gov, and national best‑practice guidelines. We go beyond minimum compliance to create a space where children feel secure, families feel confident, and staff are fully prepared to respond to every child’s needs.

Health and Safety

Cleanliness, Sanitation & Daily Health Practices

We maintain strict cleaning and sanitation routines throughout the day to reduce the spread of illness and ensure a healthy environment. This includes:

  • Frequent sanitizing and disinfecting of toys, learning materials, diapering areas, high‑touch surfaces, and classroom equipment

  • Handwashing routines required by Oregon DELC rules—before meals, after outdoor play, after diapering/toileting, and any time contamination may occur

  • Safe diapering and toileting procedures that follow OAR 414‑300‑0220, including proper glove use, surface sanitation, and child privacy

  • Daily health checks upon arrival to identify symptoms of illness early and protect the classroom community

  • Strict illness and exclusion policies aligned with Oregon Health Authority guidelines

These practices ensure that children learn and play in a clean, healthy environment every day.

Building & Classroom Safety

Crafty Mindz maintains a secure, hazard‑free environment that meets or exceeds Oregon DELC facility requirements:

  • Locked, monitored entry to ensure only authorized adults access the building

  • Regular safety inspections of classrooms, furniture, and outdoor play areas

  • Age‑appropriate materials that meet safety standards and are checked frequently for wear

  • Safe storage of hazardous materials, including cleaning supplies and medications, as required by OAR 414‑300‑0190

  • Playground safety aligned with OAR 414‑300‑0120, including fall‑zone surfacing, equipment spacing, and daily outdoor checks

Every space is intentionally designed to support exploration while minimizing risk.

Emergency Preparedness & Staff Training

Our team is trained and prepared to respond to emergencies with confidence and care. We follow all Oregon DELC requirements for emergency planning, including:

  • A comprehensive Emergency Preparedness Plan covering fire, earthquake, lockdown, evacuation, and medical emergencies

  • Monthly fire drills and regular practice of other emergency procedures

  • Staff certified in Pediatric First Aid & CPR, with training renewed on schedule

  • Clear communication procedures to keep families informed during emergencies

  • Up‑to‑date incident and injury reporting as required by OAR 414‑300‑0170

We take preparedness seriously, so children always feel safe and supported.

Nutrition, Wellness & Outdoor Play

Healthy bodies support healthy minds. Our program promotes wellness through:

  • Nutritious meals and snacks that meet USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) guidelines

  • Daily outdoor play, weather permitting, in safe, developmentally appropriate play areas

  • Opportunities for movement, sensory exploration, and gross‑motor development

  • Hydration routines and access to clean drinking water throughout the day

We help children build lifelong habits that support physical and emotional well‑being.

A Culture of Safety, Trust & Transparency

Health and safety are not just policies—they are part of our culture. We maintain open communication with families, welcome questions, and partner with parents to support each child’s well‑being. Our commitment to safety is ongoing, proactive, and rooted in our responsibility to protect every child in our care.

Crafty Mindz has exceeded any expectations I could have had for a daycare. My son started going there when he was 4 months old, and I was a first time mom. They all made me feel so comfortable, they sent an amazing amount of pictures throughout the day, and I can tell that they provide quality care...

Making the decision to return to work after 12 weeks and entrust someone else with our baby girl was incredibly difficult. From the very beginning, the staff at Crafty Mindz gave us confidence and peace of mind. Nearly two years later, we are beyond grateful that we found such kind, caring, and loving caretakers...

I had my 6 month old daughter in the daycare and it is the best place ever! The staff are so caring and engaging. They involve her in stimulating and fun activities that have helped her development (speaking, and crawling). It feels like leaving your child with a trusted family.
